Pav buns made in just 1 hour / 1 hour rolls

I have been enjoying making my own bread and buns and pav for quite a while now. Whenever I make some over the weekend and I have a chance to visit my mom, I bake some bread for her too. She loves the homemade version so whenever she plans to make pav bhaji she asks me to make some pav for her. Sometime back when she wa about to come to our home she just called up and asked if I could make some pav for her for the next day so that she could use it for breakfast. I had very little time... say just about an hour and a half which was not enough to make the buns. I told her that it would take time and it will not be possible. But my mind was not happy to deny her request so quickly browsed my pinterest saves to check out the 1-hour dinner that I have always eyed on

Got this recipe that I had saved on pinterest long back and finally got a chance to try it. It was pretty quick to make and turned out very soft and feathery. My mom liked it so much that day. She was happy that I made it for her even after I said I wont be able to

Try this 1-hour pavs and I am sure you will hook on to this recipe. Enjoy feathery soft pav buns made right at home

Serves... makes 9 medium pavs
Serve option... Hot with spicy bhaji

This is what u'll need...

All-purpose flour / maida - 1 + 1/2 cup
Yeast - 1 tspn
Sugar - 1 tbspn
Butter - 2 tbspn + 1 tspn
Salt - 1/2 tspn

Here is the stir....
  • Pour 1/4 cup of lukewarm water into a mug. Add 1 tablespoon of sugar and 1 tspn of acive dry yeast to the water. Give it a good stir and let it rest for about 15 minutes until the mixture turns frothy. This step if called proofing/activating the yeast. For more detailed instructions on proofing check out this link -> How to proof yeast
  • Measure all-purpose flour into a wide bowl
  • Add half a teaspoon of salt to the flour
  • Pour the activated frothy yeast mixture into the flour
  • Use your fingers to pull the flour together
  • Add more lukewarm water to the flour
  • Knead the flour for a few minutes till it starts pulling away from the sides of the pan
  • Add 2 tablespoon of room-temperature butter to the dough

  • Mix it in thoroughly and knead it into a soft dough
  • Transfer the dough to a clean work surface and knead it for about 10 minutes or until the dough passes the window pane test. You should be able to pull a piece of dough into a thin sheet (light should pass through) with your fingers without tearing it. If you use a stand mixer for kneading this will take just 5 minutes of your time
  • Cover and rest this dough for about 15 minutes
  • The dough will be softer now and also a little more in volume
  • Divide the dough into 9 pieces and roll each ball tightly into a smooth ball
  • Place the balls on a baking tray
  • Cover and let it rise for about 15 minutes
  • Brush the pavs with some milk
  • Bake this in a 180 degrees preheated oven for about 20-25 minutes or until the tops becomes golden brown
  • Remove from oven and brush with butter immediately
  • Let it cool for about 5 minutes and transfer it to a wire to cool it completely
  • Wait till it cools completely before you can wrap it up to store till use
  • Slice and toast with butter and serve with spicy hot bhaji

                                                        Note:
                                                        • Using a stand mixer helps in reducing kneading time
                                                        • Proof the yeast before adding it to the flour
                                                        • Adding butter makes the roll soft
                                                        • When done the rolls will be hard but they will becomes as they cool down
